For no apparent reason

I give you this waiting
this longing
it's wrapped in autumn leaves and fireflies

I give you this darkness
it'll be your mirror
on your loneliest days
this darkness will save you from falling

I give you this light, this torch
for these eyes are a big metaphor-
you will discover as time passes
when you meet the sphinx in the desert

I give you this moon
this here and now
these simple houses, simple people
unfolding their secret of happiness to the world

Feel how the trembling of the trees
how the summer breeze on our skin
how the red of this dress
how the sea
how this hug

are the same old hopscotch
which you and I play
since the beginning of time.
